Hey all
I was wondering, what people thought, of having a profile view count thing, in our profiles, so we could see how many times our profiles have been viewed. As far as I know, we do not already have this.
And also, while I am on the topic of profiles, I think it should be made that you have to include specific info in your profile.
You should be made to add things like your age, though not your actual birthdate if you didnt want that shared, your gender, location, and in the description part, you should be made at least to write something.
It isnt all that fun when you go to read someones profile, and see it is blank.
Providing your age is already mandatory.

The profiles are fine the way they are. Some would rather not put anything in there, that is there perogative I think.
I don't think its fun to read an empty profile either, however i it is always good to have options in life.

People shouldn't have to include their age if they don't want, but I agree about the location thing - some people write ridiculous things for their location.
No, your age is only included if your whole birthday shows.
you can choose to display only your birth month or month and day.
I'd personally like to know a person's age, just so that I can know what kinds of topics would be safe to discuss ...
(I'm not into sexual discussion with minors, thanks.)
Just my opinion.
a person could put a fake age anyway, even a fake gender, we had our experiences with that not long ago... how would you know. and if people put strange things for locations, just ask them where they are from...
i think profiles are fine the way they are, too. and like john said i don't like blank profiles either, but if you're not creative enough or just don't feel like putting anything in your profile you shouldn't be forced to do it, if we want to know something about a person, talk to them is a good way i think
I agree with the locations things.
Ok, if people dont want to put their exact age, we could have age ranges. like, you could be between 13 and 18, or 19 and 25, and so on. that way, we dont know your exact age, but get some idea.

As for location, it could be the same thing, you have a list of countries, and you simply choose the country you live in.
agree about the location thing. you could have to select from a list of countries, and then have an option to write where in that country you are, so you could still write something crazy if you happen to be a crazy person. as for ages, I believe it's fine the way it is, where your age is shown only if you're whole birthdate is shown. people should have the right not to disclose their age if they choose.

agree with Lory, but those were fake identities altogether, so making the profiles more strict won't catch them too quickly.
I agree with posts 9 and 10. The age range and country things sound like a good idea, because even if these were made manditory to put in, it still would not give away too much personal information but at the same time would still give others some idea about the person.
I'd suggest doing a conditional statement in the viewuser.php file to force age inclusion even if entire birthdays are not shown.

why would you want to force age inclusion anyway? Why not just force the whole birthdate to be shown - you can pretty much work one out from the other anyway.
Why, Steve? Because some people would not want their entire birthday shown, but the age must be included at all costs, in my opinion.
I've never understood why some people think that telling your age is a personal thing. I also agree with post 6 about minors. I'd be totally grossed out and upset if I ever found out I was having a sexual discussion or anything similar with a minor. I know that these kinds of conversations go on in quick notes where some minors are clearly present, but I can't control that. I can control what goes on one on one and I'd like to be able to do that. Also, the location is a great idea. I wish that they had a race or ethnicity slot. It could be optional, but it would still be interesting.
Okay Tyler. Say for instance someone's birthday was February 23, and they had that showing. then it said their age was 20. Don't you think you could guess what their full birthdate will be? Like I said in my last post, you can work one out from the other. Personally I don't care if people see my age, but I know plenty of people do, so I'm speaking for them.

I agree! some people Private QN you and to find out about them you click their profile only to find out that you don't know how old the person you are talking to is. sometimes you want to have age friendly discussions and not to talk to someone who is for example 16 and you're almost 21. p

Hi, of course you're interested in how old the person you are talking to is, but some people don't want to tell you their age. They might have personal reasons, and should *not* be forced to tell you, in my opinion. So I think the age range would be a great idea.
As for the profile counter, counting how often a user's profile has been viewed, that's a brilliant idea too. People can see how interesting their profile is to others.
I don't like the profile counting thing. If you change something in your profile,such as adding a new favorite book or changing the spelling of something in your About Me section, I could see the counter being inaccurate. I sometimes view profiles just to see if something's changed and wouldn't want a miss-count just because I've viewed someone's profile 4 times this year. Not a good idea to me. The other stuff I think should be optional except the birthday/age thing. It's important your age is known at least to the CL's/Admins so they know if you're under age.
Well, the admins and CL's know your age when you sign up, but I think all users at least need to know whether your a minor or not. Maybe not the actual age. That would be up to the person to tell you. Or....maybe there should be three categories for age that you would be placed in, and that would be shown to other users: minor, that is, under 18, young adult, that would be from, say, 18 to 30, and then, over 30. I can't really think of a name for that category that doesn't sound like I'm calling 31 old. lol. Again, these are all just thoughts. I definitely agree that you should know the relative age range for reasons discussed above.
